The Austin ASIS Chapter would like to invite you to our monthly lunch meeting on Thursday April 17th  from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM.  Our guest speaker will be Joell McNew,  who will be presenting "An Introduction to CPTED Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design and The Importance of Calling Out CPTED Principles"

As we implement CPTED strategies, explicitly identifying these actions as CPTED-based is crucial. By doing so, we acknowledge the methodology behind our efforts and underscore the proven benefits of these principles. This recognition helps to support and validate the positive impact of CPTED on improving the quality of life in our communities.

Joell McNew worked in the aerospace manufacturing industry for 18 years and first learned of CPTED, crime prevention through environmental design, during a registrar assessment for the company's ISO 9001:2015 re-certification audit. This experience ignited her passion for learning more and pursuing a new career in crime prevention consulting. Joell is passionate about CPTED, community engagement, and building collaboration to improve safety. Over the last several years, she has immersed herself in public safety as President of SafeHorns, a non-profit organization established in 2016 by UT Austin parents. As a proud parent of a University of Texas at Austin student, she and her family's life changed forever when her student classmate Haruka Weiser was murdered on campus in April 2016. Since then, she has worked in Austin and nationwide, educating, advocating, and engaging with stakeholders to create safer communities.

Joell is a Certified CPTED Practitioner. She developed a Multi-Housing Crime Prevention Program to assist multi-housing property owners and managers in implementing CPTED principles within their properties to help deter crime, reduce liability, and improve residents' quality of life. Training, community engagement, maintenance, and annual assessments are key program components. She has a strong background in community engagement with city leaders, stakeholders, law enforcement, and the communities she serves.
