Please join us for this month's meeting discussing a key topic for most orgniazations as they continue to develop and plan and evolve their security strategy. This month's meeting will feature Conducting Physical Security Risk Assessments (RA). The presentation will help enable a better understanding of:
- What a Risk Assessment is, and what it is not
- Processes that can be used to mine information from an organization
- How to research and identify information that will be used in the RA
- How an RA can be used to support the development of an organizations plans
We are excited to be joined this month by ASIS Austin's very own chapter member and Certifications Chair Anthony Hurley. Anthony is a Senior Consultant with Critical Preparedness, LLC, a Texas-based firm, specializing in Emergency Management and Physical Security Management. His consulting assignments have afforded him an opportunity to serve utility, critical infrastructure and government clients throughout the Continental U.S., Alaska, the Caribbean, and the Middle East. Prior to serving as a Consultant, Mr. Hurley celebrated 37 years in the utility sector, serving in management positions with five (5) electric utilities in three states (OH, PA and NJ). He retired in February of 2017, as Vice President of Operations for an electric utility that served 1.1 million customers, where he managed an operations workforce of 1,250 professional and represented employees. He has completed the FEMA Master Exercise Practitioner (MEP) program, as well as the FEMA Advanced Professional Series (APS). He is certified as a FEMA Professional Continuity Practitioner, and is a FEMA Certified Instructor of the Incident Command System (ICS). He possesses the coveted ‘Triple Crown’ of ASIS board certifications, being board certified as a Certified Protection Professional (CPP®), Professional Certified Investigator (PCI®), and Physical Security Professional (PSP®). He has also achieved the Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) Professional Designation (CPD). He is a Past Chair of the ASIS International Utilities Security Council, which represented electric, nuclear, natural gas, communications, water and wastewater, and hydro dam utilities, and has presented at numerous ASIS GSX conferences. He is an Adjunct Instructor for the NYU School of Professional Studies in New York City, and an Adjunct Instructor at the FEMA Emergency Management Institute (EMI) in Emmitsburg, Maryland. He currently serves on the Planning Committee for the National Hurricane Conference. Throughout his career, Hurley has received specialized emergency management, security, and terrorism training from numerous agencies, including the FBI, USDHS, and FEMA. He is a graduate of the FBI Citizens Academy (Cleveland FBI Field Office), and is a member of the Austin, Texas chapter of InfraGard (FBI Alliance). He continues to maintain an elevated security clearance (Secret) through the USDHS Private Sector Program.
